Maxim {part two}

As promised here are a few more little pics of the gorgeous Maxim who returned for session 2 this week as promised. This is a special little shoot for me as it is the last one taken in the Beloved Studio in Edinburgh and after Xmas it will be all change but the baby photography will be just as much fun I hope as the studio wasn't really essential for this type of work as it turned out!

So lovely Maxim & his Mum had another afternoon with me and at 11 weeks its much more likely that sleeping poses will be harder to capture. But what you get instead is lovely smiles and bright eyes and it is amazing how alert and aware of your surroundings & people you are at 11 weeks old :) I think Maxim knew exactly what was going on...

We have some extra poses in his Christmas suit (which I think Daddy might think is a bit silly but hey it is the season to be jolly)

Ive been looking forward to using my new blanket as the colours are so muted & lovely and the subtle tartan pattern worked really well for a baby boy backdrop. Found again in my lovely favourite interiors shop Homer Edinburgh.

This lovely little baby boy arrived in such a sweet little Christmas outfit I couldn't resist taking some shots of him in it before I got him in his birthday suit :) The main post will follow next week but this is a cheeky preview for his Mummy & Daddy who were very thoughtful & understanding today when I had to leave the session early to attend to my own son who had fallen down a very large hill whilst skiing (Harry is fine thank goodness and this gorgeous photo session will be resumed next week!)

Christmas Portraits for the Nelson Family

The holidays are coming...and these three lovely children were already excited I think! Callum & Elizabeth & Matthew popped in for a little Christmas portrait so Mum could get organised with

gifts & cards to send to family outside the UK.

These guys were seriously cute & cheeky faced so it was good fun getting them all together

Wow...I love this couple...I know it was the 5th November when we met to take these shots and it was a delight to see the little fireworks between them - totally loved up. We wandered around the Grassmarket practising a few poses and just being silly chatting and thinking about the big day's arrangements. Claire & Chris relocated to Windsor a little while ago but will be returning to beloved Edinburgh for their wedding next year. I caught an opportunity with them on a lovely crisp day in Edinburgh, we messed about and they hopefully had a bit of fun x This is a quick peek and more to come tomorrow!

Here's a nice nostalgic picture for Claire & Chris - Edinburgh Castle is quite impressive and does make a lovely backdrop to a cheeky kiss ;)

Lovely lucky Cameron

Cameron's mum had won a little competition of ours and had been very generous with her Facebook friends so we offered her a free shoot for her lovely little boy Cameron x

He was such a scrumptious little dumpling and here's a sneak at the pictures to prove it.

What a happy little chap

Or maybe not? Cameron had just realised he had forgotten to wear his tie!

So he got straight on the mobile to his Mum....

...and she told him not to worry but maybe just wear his hat for the photograph instead !

Anyway I think he had a good time after all of that...I know I did !

Saoirse {newborn}

I received a call from Saoirse's mum asking about newborn photography and I got busy, meant to call back on Sunday morning, forgot (rubbish, I apologised) then she called me again thank goodness as this little one was already 14 days old...Wow time flies quick and its a little lesson to me to be more attentive of my phone messages or I might have missed her newborn photographs.

Its also much nicer for me to get the nod from pregnant mums before the due date as it gives me chance to book in a provisional date so I'm ready to pounce once the baby is born :) So if you are reading this and thinking about booking me for your baby when it is born, please drop me an email through the contact page on here or just give me a call, and ill try to remember to call you back!

So back to this gorgeous little baby with tons of wavy black hair and a great Irish girls name too (pronounced Sorsha - wow i hope thats right or I'm gonna look silly)

Sooo pretty I've made it my image of the month in the header on this blog, which I hope to change around every month from now on so this is November's!

Saoirse did spend quite a bit of time awake for her photography portrait and although I really love my sleeping beauty shots & poses this next photograph is timeless and amazing...14 days old and completely aware of her surroundings...they really are little miracles x

William & Grace (a great double act)

Ive known Becky & Keith for far too long and their babies have grown up so quickly whilst we have been in Edinburgh! William is 6 and Grace is 4 and I was happy to get some new photographs of them both for Becky who had made enquiries about the Christmas portrait sessions.

Whilst on location you have to really think about what to take along to make it fun and how the light & weather will work for you - especially if you do have to go indoors. We were lucky and although it was a bit gloomy the rain held off and we got to go at least 200 metres away from their lovely red front door to get some gorgeous shots of them posing and messing about!

Flaky paint & gritty old bricks & gorgeous kids - PERFECT!

Some of my favourite backdrops are in places like these, a quick 'risk assessment' (a nod to the health&safety husband there!) and we were happy messing about with a big reflector and Mum as assistant. People always look at me funny when I suggest these locations but they really do work.

Grace is up first...what a lovely little girl and seemed wise for a 4 year old. Total sweetie and I think she enjoyed having her photograph taken

Then it was Williams turn, I'm still not sure what he made of it all but he played along :)

I could have shared tons from this session as it was lovely but my last little sneaky peek is back at the front door with 2 Happy kids (or 2 kids with Happy?) x

Little Alfie & Baby Isabelle Grace

I had Stephanie booked in for a newborn shoot for a few weeks before her due date and was over the moon to get an actual live chat message whilst I was on Facebook from her to tell me she was actually in the birthing pool and when did I want to do the session?! Amazing :) Isabelle may have made her family wait a few extra days but she was worth the wait, and they always are. Weighing 7llb and 15oz, and joining her beautiful little family on the 23rd October 2011.

Congratulations guys, especially to little Alfie who is the best big brother and Im sure it's going to be hard to say who is the prettiest of the two children :)

Wow, what beautiful children - an absolute gift

This next shot is funny as there are certain dangers involved in newborn photography, and Im quite used to being wee'd & pooped on but I wasn't sure how Alfie would feel about it if his little baby sister 'christened' him! Anyhoo myself & mum Steph sat patiently and placed little Isabelle on Alfie's knee, shushed her to sleep and kept her warm with a little blanket until we were ready. Alfie piped in that he thought Isabelle felt really warm too, and in fact he thought she felt "BOILING" in his best exaggerated 4 year old drama voice. Me & Stephanie looked at each other and without words decided to tell him after the shot that she may have had a little accident!

Image is cracking though & well worth the humiliation in later life

And for Isabelle's next trick... Put me in a tutu and lie me on a vintage suitcase please...Awesome cuteness

Anna & Phil & Jasper

Ive worked with Anna for a bit this year and she has been a lovely fan of my photography, always giving me great comments and words of encouragement, so when the opportunity came along to enter a little auction for Children in Need she jumped at the chance and was in really quick to win a photography session for her and the men in her life x However the competition was in 2010!!! It has taken us almost one year to get around to doing this lovely outdoor shoot and she may kill me for posting this without her editorial control, but hey they look lovely.

We had a nice relaxed shoot in Inverleith Park in Edinburgh, which I am going to miss as I walk my lovely bulldog Monty there too and have had many a nice family time messing about with a rugby ball! The fireworks are awesome when they go up above the castle from the parks vantage point in the

North of the city.

Anyway enough nostalgia I haven't left Edinburgh yet!

Little Jack

Last week I had the pleasure of catching up with a friend, from back in the early NHS days! (those who know me well know that my first career was as a nurse and many great times were had during the Cardiothoracic period in the 90's! mmm Im making it sound like something to do with dinosaurs now...and maybe it is! Ha! We had a good old reminisce about great times and amazing people that we had worked with and it was good to see Nicky, who has recently returned from her own epic adventures down under but is now undertaking the biggest adventure of all - being a very proud Mum x What a little beaut Jack is too. Gave everyone a surprise and came 6 weeks before he was supposed to but all is well and by the time I caught up with them both he was a healthy 9 llb-er and quite the little man.

Yee Haa...I think he was dreaming about playing cowboys and indians on this lovely bedspread. I always spot something cute to take along to my newborn sessions and love finding props & baby blankets that are a little bit different...sleepy Jack makes this proper little boys blanket look really good xxx

Thomas & Harry's Winter Portrait

Thomas and little Harry were an absolute joy to take photographs of - in fact I think it was one of the easiest sessions I have had for a while so thank you guys! Thomas was a proper superstar and Harry was just a little cutie and very interested in the gravel in the back garden. We had planned for the weather to be cold and get some autumn wrapped up shots but at around 3pm the sun came out and it was like a summers afternoon! I should really stop planning for the weather! Its just as well I'm prepared for most things and we did get a summer/winter shoot all in one - brilliant. Helen & Danny (Mum & Dad) joined in too - there's one for the album me thinks (I didn't even have to swap Danny's head about hehe)

This is one of my favourite kids shots to date so I might have to borrow Thomas again someday

Colour is fab!! I love it xx

Baby Oliver

Some of you can probably guess that there has been a lot going on behind the scenes lately with Beloved Photography, and as my little collaboration with Zoe comes to an end its good to be getting a new start and posting your lovely photographs shared on my new blog. These are mostly from my sessions in Hartlepool recently during the autumn break and although some of my little models are not quite ready to be enjoying a school holiday its funny thinking that they have that all yet to come.

I love newborn photography and it amazes me how alert a 2 week old baby is, they just don't want to miss anything thats going on and really hold out on that big mid afternoon nap time. This means that I get to cuddle them for ages whilst I pretend to get them to sleep. Its tough. Its even tougher for Mums as they have to relax, watch daytime TV and drink tea, in between little feeding times.

Seriously though Oliver is gorgeous and I'm glad he's my first post as the pictures are really lovely.
